Using the Nutrition Facts Table

Using the Nutrition Facts Table

Heath Canada passed regulations in 2002 to ensure most pre-packaged food in Canada contains standardized nutrition labels. Prior to these regulations, nutrition labelling was almost entirely voluntary, making it difficult for you to know the true nutritional value of certain foods.

The new Nutrition Facts table (see the example below) must include consistent serving sizes, and declare the calories and 13 core nutrients specific for the stated serving size.

This means you can now use the Nutrition Facts table to compare products more easily by quickly determining their nutritional value, and better manage the food choices of you and your family.

"The Nutrition Facts Table helps you compare products more easily, so you can better manage food choices for you and your family."
