With the holiday season fast approaching, you might be gearing up to make those classic holiday cookies to share with friends and family. If you’re like most people, the thought of baking 5-6 different varieties may be overwhelming. This year try something different and organize a cookie exchange party with family and friends, it’s easier than you think.
Invite a group of friends or family (4-8 people is best). Ask each guest to prepare one recipe but bring a large batch to the exchange. All guests go home with a great selection of cookies, enjoying all the benefits without the hassle.
Here are 5 simple tips to get you started.
1. Variety is the spice of life. Ask each person to bring a different type of cookie to ensure variety. Looking for some ideas? Try ROLO chocolate cookies or Nestlé NOIR Chocolate Chunk Cookies. For more ideas, check out our recipes section.
2. Estimating portions. To ensure that everyone has enough cookies to take home, ask each guest to bake one dozen cookies per person (eg 6 guests = 72 cookies). Remember to keep a few extras to taste and share for your party.
3. Keep it festive. To keep with the holiday spirit, decorate your home with festive colours and play some festive music. Have a decorated table for people to display their cookies for the exchange. This is a great time to serve festive food and beverages.
4. Be organized. With so many cookies to share, ask guests to bring their own containers to transport cookies home. Try to avoid cookies that are sticky or break easily.
5. Share the joys. You may have your own favourite recipes but a cookie exchange is also a great way to share recipes. Ask guests to bring a copy of their recipe for all the guests. Alternatively, ask guests to email you a copy and have them printed on nice recipe cards.
Most importantly, have fun! Hosting a Cookie Exchange is a great way to gear up for the holiday season and spend some quality time with friends and family.
