Now that summer is here, it’s time to get the kids outdoors to enjoy the warm weather. With all the computer and video games available these days, those classic outdoor kids’ activities seem like a distant memory. Here are some simple games to get kids active and they require minimal equipment, making them easy to play almost anywhere and anytime.
Hopscotch: Surprise the kids with a pack of jumbo chalk that you can pick up at your local dollar store, and get them outside to play a game of hopscotch. Simple, fun and can be played just about anywhere.
Red Rover: A classic game that you may have grown up with. All you need is a group of people, open space and lots of energy! Makes for a great game at a kid’s birthday party.
Jump-Rope and Double Dutch: Jump rope is a great way to get the kids heart pumping and an easy way to have fun. Keep some skipping ropes at home or the cottage and get skipping! Having fun can be good for you too!
Scavenger Hunt: There are tons of beautiful parks and hiking trails across Canada, most of which are open to the public. Take the kids out and have a scavenger hunt. You can even pack a picnic and make a day of it.
Bubble Fun: Everyone loves to blow bubbles. Get the kids outside, give each a container of bubbles and challenge them to see who can create the biggest bubble or blow bubbles while they race to pop them. Lots of laughs are sure to be had!
Note: Have a wand, but out of bubble solution? No need to buy more, mixing dish soap with water gets the job done as well.
