New Year – New Commitment to Your Health and Wellness
It's a new year – a time to renew your commitment to YOU! Nothing is as important as your wellbeing and often it’s the one thing in our lives that we sacrifice at the expense of helping others. January is the perfect month to wipe the slate clean and start fresh…
Life is busy. From work to family, friends and significant others, sometimes it seems like it would take a superperson to juggle it all. Making time for yourself can increase your physical and emotional well being, helping you feel more energized, alert and better able to focus on tasks. The good news is there are lots of easy ways to relax and de-stress. It’s just a matter of making the time.
Experience a Different A.M. Rush
Mornings don’t have to be harried. Waking up just ten or fifteen minutes earlier can give you a little extra time to do some morning stretching, read the paper, take a walk or do ab-so-lute-ly nothing.
If the thought of getting up earlier makes you cringe, there’s always your commute. Instead of pulling out your laptop while on the train, write in a journal, compose a poem, or do some sketching. If you drive to work and are really feeling ambitious, instead of your usual morning radio show, load a foreign language CD into you car’s CD player and try to learn a few words or phrases every day. C’mon, cultivate your inner artist!
All Work and No Play
Whether you work inside or outside your home, no doubt your day can get stressful. But even the busiest among us can find time in between chores and appointments.
Don’t be afraid to say no to lunch invitations, volunteer activities, even chores. Instead take some time to enjoy a good book, or head outside for an energizing stroll.
After-Hours
Making time alone to relax in the evenings helps us take stock of the day’s events and prepare for the next day. So instead of settling down in front of the tube or calling up a friend for a chat, try turning off the TV and phone for a few hours.
Try going outside for a walk or challenge yourself with a 1.000 piece puzzle or a game of solitaire. You might be amazed at how many different ways there are to relax and re-energize yourself.
